Thursday Night Movies: Restorative or Orthodontics?

Thank you Dr. Akin and Caroline for hosting another wonderful evening. Awesome program and discussion afterwards.

One of the cases we discussed was the supereruption of the upper and lower anterior segments, which can occur either with or without loss of vertical dimension. I thought it might be interesting to see what one of these cases looks like from a restorative approach, without orthodontic intervention.

Although this case had no indication of diminished vertical, VDO was increased slightly with the restorative treatment. This patient had osseous crown lengthening in both upper and lower anterior (thank you, Dr. Legleu!)

If the teeth need to be restored because of structural deficiencies, color or shape issues, this type of patient will be better served with restorative and periodontal treatment. If the teeth are sound and the patient is satisfied with color and shape, orthodontic treatment is a much better solution. Sometimes both approaches are appropriate, and the combination ortho, perio, and restorative may mean that fewer teeth will need to be restored.

Night at the Moview 2012!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas and New Years!

Reminder
To start our new year of camaraderie and collaborative learning, we will be screening 2 movies at my office on January 12th.

The first video is a phenomenal treatment planning session from the 2011 SSC Symposium featuring Dr. Kokich, a world renowned orthodontist.

But, it gets better!  Next is the keynote address given by Dr. Nido Qubein from the 2011 Seattle Study Club Symposium.  He is an incredible person and this is worth the price of admission alone.

Starts at 6pm sharp!

Problem Solving Workshop December 2011

Our first problem solving workshop was an outstanding event!  Personally, I felt that this collaborative environment allowed for an unparalleled learning experience.

In fact, I used two principles I learned that night the next day in my practice.
